accessing files on network drive in office

Hi All,
I am new here, and from what i've seen so far this is a great forum. My question concernes Microsoft office xp. I am running XP pro and have word and excell files stored on network drive f:.
Network is novell 3.2.1. if I try to browse the files on the f: drive
Word and excell will not even show the drive. I can however open the files if i use explorer and double click the files from there.
This is annoying and is not happening on all xp machines on the network, so it must be some setting? right? Anyone have a fix for this?
Thanks
Frank

Frank,, do you use the native Windows XP IPX protocol to access the Novel File server ? or you are using the Novel desktop client for Novel Authentication and network access ? and If you are using Novel client,, what version is it ? you see there are lots of issues with older novel server and newer novel client, you have to have the right version of the client and right Service Release on the server in order to have the whole thing working properly.

cheers

Hi,
I am using xp ipx, client 4.83 sp2 on novell 3.2.1. My machine is a
1.8 gig dell notebook, not that that should matter. I use windows
update frequently, so i'm pretty current there. I appreciate any help.

I could not find any article in regards to compatibility of Windows XP with Novell 3.2.1,, let's be honest,, that an old server,, anyways,, my experience with Novel has thought me to stay current with the Support Packs, here is the link to download the support pack 3 for Novell 3.2.1:
http://support.novell.com/servlet/fi.../zfd32sp3b.exe

Once again,, I haven't read it anywhere that support pack three will fix your issue but you are better off applying the patch then not,,, one other thing,, stick with Version 4.83 of the client because I have noticed bugs with higher version.

cheers
