Weird IE6 default browser issue

First of all, everytime I open IE6 its gives me the "IE is not default. Do you want to set it? etc." I click yes, and IE opens and works fine. Here the problem(s).

Everytime I close IE and re-open it, it gives me the same default browser msg. I have no other browsers installed so why does IE keep thinking its not default?

Any hyperlinks in MSN Messenger will do absolutely nothing, unless IE is already open, then it works fine. ???

Last part, in Outlook, even though IE is open, any hyperlinks I click on give me the error msg, "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. etc." ???

I'm not sure if these are three problems or just one cuz they all kinda tie in together so if anyone else has experienced this or knows what to do, any help would be great. Also, I've been running XP Pro on this comp since Sept with no problems until about 3 weeks ago, only thing I might have changed on the OS would be setting up some IIS services like TS and HTTP.

Thanks,
Nick

For your IE 'default' message... try this. On the menu: go to 'Tools" -> 'Internet options', click the 'Programs' tab, then down at the bottom make sure there is NOT a check mark by "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser".
Are you using 'Outlook' (if so, which version?) or Outlook Express? If you are using Outlook, try the 'Detect and Repair' function that is located in the Help menu. If you are using Outlook Express check your security settings. HTH

The following link is a Microsoft KB article. It gives great instructions on how to restore or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express.

Microsoft KB Article 318378
