When you type your message in the white box in "New Reply" there are several options (Bold, Italic, Underline, etc.). Just below them are two options for inserting images. "http://" and "IMG". If you use "http://" you create a link to the site where the image is. If you use "IMG" you will create an image that will appear in your post. Regardless of which one you choose, your image must be on a site that can be downloaded from.

You'd normally put the image in the post if it's small enough not to be a problem for people with low speed connections, and use a link if it's large.

You said that my " image must be from a site that can be downloaded from." Could I scan an image or take it from one of my files and include it at the end of my post? I've seen that done and it just seems more convenient to read the post and scroll right into the image, rather then linking to it or downloading it. Is it ok to be talking in the testing forum?

I haven't used all the features in our new board, but this is from the Frequently Asked Questions for the board.

"The administrator may allow you to use the attachment feature of this board, which gives you the ability to attach files of certain types to your posts. This could be an image, a text document, a zip file etc. There will be a limit to the file size of any attachments you make, as the board should not be used as an extension of your hard disk!

To attach a file to a new post, simply click the [Browse] button at the bottom of the post composition page, and locate the file that you want to attach from your local hard drive.

Only certain types of files may be attached: these are the valid file extensions for files to be attached to this board: gif jpg png txt zip bmp jpeg.

After posting, the attachment will show up in the body of your message. To view the contents of the attachment (if it is not already displayed) simply click the filename link that appears next to the attachment icon."

Thanks for walking me through that ESALUDUANE. I get it now. However, in my forum rules box, it says that I may not post attachments. If I could, then there would be a Browser button available...and I know what to do from there.

I was going to attach a picture of my dog, because he thinks that you are pretty nice too.

*sigh* You can't even add an external image to your sig???
Add the code to an externally hosted image every time you post. Best you will get.

Perhaps if own avatar upload was allowed?

To be honest Barbara, I don't think I would get any further. Such is the way things are around here.
In any case, it's not the answer.

One could reasonably expect a concession or two for the "old faithful". The membership is everything. right? Or should I say, the contributing membership.

If you look at my feedback posts. I made a suggestion about the sound issue problems overtaking every section. It got nowhere.
I will start responding to these problems again when the powers that be do something to ease the mess. If ever.

The word filter thread.... I'm being ignored????

Look above at the last request to the staff:

answer...........??

No attempt to make people join in discussions. No community feeling, nothing.
It's why there is a massive imbalance in the active registered to guests ratio that are online.
I could go on, but I will stop here since the db won't be big enough to handle the text.
*moaning mode off*

Take it how you wish, everybody. It's how I see things here.

ESALADUANE explained clearly.

All suggestions are taken seriously. I will reply to your other suggestions in their thread.

Regarding attachments:
Around 400,000 posts = 1 GB Space
Around 2,500 screenshots / attachments = 1 GB Space

Space is cheap, yes, but storing and retrieving images quickly requires lots of processing power (multiple servers = expensive). This is the reason why attachments are disabled.

ESALADUANE stated you, "The Tool", can turn them on or off. Nothing was explained about my concerns.
Processing power is not an issue where thumbnails are in use. Multiple servers not required. Line speed is a bigger problem. 512 guests currently loading the server with requests and no visible slowdown. There's no problem with server power or bandwidth here.

Avatar uploading... My current one isn't even 1K.
Sig image size. Ditto.
PM message size, to small.
Cookie expiry, too soon. Write a longish post and copy it before submittal, or lose it. Only happens on this site/board.

Oh well, I tried at least.

I won't get any sort of positive answer
