how to burn DVD secured with password

I am running on windows 7. I want to burn a data DVD disc secured with password, which would work on different windows (or at least common OS like XP , windows 7 , windows 8 etc), such that every time when someone wants to gain access to the files, password must be entered. I am not doing this to avoid advanced users/hackers, but only average users, so I'm looking for simpler method. Thank you.

Just about any file encryption program will do what you want. A simple compression program like 7-Zip will do the trick. GNU Privacy Guard is also popular.
