Windows 8.1 problem

I bought an HP Z230 workstation a few months ago it came with Windows 8 Operating system DVD software. I upgraded to Windows 8.1 on line for free from Microsoft.
Over the past few weeks I am having problems with the Pc it has become unstable, freezing, dropping out when on the internet and sometimes will not turn off or restart.
I found a programme on the PC:
PC settings/Update & Recovery/Refresh you PC without affecting files/Insert Media, some files are missing.
When I insert my Windows 8 DVD it states:
The media inserted is not valid. This is a genuine HP recovery software disc so I know it is valid. Do I need to use a Windows 8.1 disc as I donít have one.
