explorer has caused an error in unknown

Hi guys! new to the forum and i have a problem already! recently....i had some spyware on my computer and decided to try to delete it by using one of those programs. i deleted a bunch of spyware but still had my homepage being changed. well...i noticed that the homepage kept returning to c:windows/secure and decided to go into the windows folder and find and delete this file thinking it was gonna fix it. well damn....now i get the message "explorer has caused an error in unknown" every time i boot up my computer. i can't even do anything to try to remedy this problem. any HELP is appreciated at this point before i restore the whole computer. thanks!

If i could direct you to reinstall the operating system without loosing any of the current programs in your windows 98, would you consider that option. Because the way it is sitting, even you don't know what file is missing and that would be very hard to diagnose and fix.

cheers
