Hi all! I'm in dire need of help for two very annoying problems I've been having with my computer. I'll go into as much detail as possible (so be warned, it might get pretty boring) so y'all hopefully can figure out what's going on.
Problem 1:
My computer is a homebrew and pretty old. The hard drives in it had about 5 years of junk built up, so of course there were plenty of conflicts. When it got to the point that I was resetting my computer every 20 minutes or so, I decided to reformat. In preparation, I had made two folders on my D drive, temp and temp2. Temp contained all of the folders on C drive except for windows, while temp2 was had only the windows directory in it. After copying it over, I had used a few programs in these backup directories and browsed through them, so I know prior to reformating it was working fine. After I had reformated C, brought the OS back up and running, the two folders are seemingly corrupt. I've noticed that basically any folder that was created about a month before reformating gives the same error message when you try to access or delete it. "D:\Temp\ is not accessible. The device does not recognize the command." when trying to open it, and "Cannot delete Temp: The device does not recognize the command." My dad has an old DOS version of Norton Commander, so we tried booting off of that and we were able to access these folders but they appeared empty. I noticed while running a DOS version of McAfee Virus Scan that it sees all of the files in the folder, but it can't access or read them.
Problem 2: After reformating, I hadn't noticed this problem until I had installed Kazaa. Now, any time I try signing into a website that has a file called to login (atleast I'm guessing this is what it's going on?), MSIE has an error. It's one of those annoying errors that you have to send a report for, so I can't really get that much information out of it. I have had this problem every time I have to do any sort of login verification on ebay, and even had a problem once when I tried posting to this forum.
Anyone have any idea what could be going on with either of these problems? I'm entirely stumped. Any information or ideas to try would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Brian
