System Resources - WinME

My computer starts running real slow, I had several windows open since I am a stock trader; Scottrade and a charting program; I checked System Resources and it was 0%; after restarting this was the screen shot (below); Seems System Resources is a bit low;

Any Suggestions/Solutions Please?

Windows ME sucks big time,,, that is windows 98½ .. you should move away from Windows me since memory management in it is not very good. I don't even suggest Windows XP, your best bet probably is Windows 2000 with SP4. You got 256 meg of ram and that is plenty for Win2k.

cheers

That's exactly what I needed to hear, I was going to Altex today and buy XP, so now I will just buy Windows 2000 SP4 as you suggest.

Question; I am not computer savvy enough to reformat the disk, so should I have someone put Windows 2000 SP4 on, on would it be ok to just buy the software and put it over Windows ME myself?

Also, earlier today, I did some changes in system.ini , then went back to default; Let windows manage virtual memory, here is what system.ini shows now, I hope I didn't mess anything up. Does this look OK? I xxx'ed out pwl for security reasons. thanks in advance.

looks OK to me.. you are computer savvy or else you wouldn't know system ini and all that.
Anyways, I don't know if you could buy Windows 2000 any more or not, I'm sure you can't get them in big department store, you may have to go to small computer shop and ask for it.

bets way of doing it is a clean install, don't install it over Windows ME. Installing Win2k from a boot able CD is not a big deal, it is very simple, but you will need to save your files and documents first (backup, and more backup).

cheers
p.s; if you lived close by then I could have done it for you

Snowmonkey, this is how savvy I am;

http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=twe...t&cop=mss&tab=

I just know how to search for solutions.

I do have a CD r/rw would that be the way to backup up everything? I also have Norton Ghost, but I bet there are better back up programs out there. I live in a big city, and we have a compter place call Altex Electronics;http://www.altex.com/locations.php?o...fff8499be 00d

here and they have and can do anything and at good prices. It's seems like a big task to me but I need to do something, after a few startup my scan disk and defrag takes hours instead of minutes.

I believe I will give it a go, and let you know on the Windows 2000 SP4.

In a back up I worry about losing my Favorites in IE and things like that, simple things I could back up ok.

Norton Ghost will take an image of what you want... that's not what you are looking for.... just select any folder you want to backup and burn it into a CD or two (or 5).

Keep us posted
