windows file extensions

Greetings: I hope this is where I can leave a message for help. When I download a program to my hard drive, it appears in my files as a WPS, instead of a EXE. Therefor it will not open, because it is a notepad extension.
I cannot get WPS out of the way, so EXE can be used. Could this be a regisrtry problem?

Thanks. Solon.

You can't rename the program from program.wps to program.exe?

If it won't let you do that, what is the specific error?

if you can rename it to .EXE and it still wants to open in notepad (actually .wps is a Microsoft Works extension), then maybe you can try to use open with and pick something from the list

Click ONCE on the file you want to open so that its highlighted.

HOLD down SHIFT

RIGHT-CLICK on that same file

You will now have an option for OPEN WITH.

LEFT-CLICK on that.

See if something else in here might open it.

I think we need more information in order to help you.
