Renaming is the same as removing, except that by renaming, the file is still in its correct folder and available to be put back merely by renaming it back to the original name. Yes, you can delete it and leave it in the recycle bin until you are sure you don't need to restore it but it's real easy to forget that and empty the recycle bin and then realize you need to restore the file or files.

An integrated sound "card" (part of the motherboard) works essentially the same way as a PCI card. The motherboard requires drivers. Then both an integrated sound and a separate sound card, whichever you have, require their own drivers.

If it is an integrated "card," it certainly possible it's gone bad. In which case, a good PCI sound card can be bought for as little as $20 (or as much as hundreds), the onboard sound disabled in the BIOS, the new card installed and its drivers installed and it'll be good to go.

I had no idea what had and had not been tried nor what had or had not been decided so I offered my best shot in the dark.

I do not hand out my home address to strangers in real life nor do I hand out my email address to strangers on the internet. It is regrettable that Brutus has taken offense at that.

Okay, now I'm done. Good luck with it.

First where and what did you suggest be "renamed" ?
C-Media is C-Media you can't rename it.but you can "remove"
it from Device Manager restart and let Windows detect it.
My email is open to this wonderfull World Wide Web.
Addresses and phone numbers do happen,if your an honest human.I got nuttin to hide,HEE Haw.

As I said in a previous post: "Then I would boot into Safe Mode, go into Device Manager, double click on the sound card it thinks it has, then go to the Driver tab, find all the drivers listed under Details and rename them by substituting .old for the file extension (so you can find them later if you need to change them back). Finally, I would remove the sound card from Device manager."

You, of course, are perfectly free to give your email address out to everyone. I prefer not to get all the spam that results. Crawling boards such as these is a favorite way for spammers to reap email addresses.

Okay, this is my last reply to this thread.

When you register on a forum such as this one, you have the choice to hide or display your email address. If you choose to display it, web crawlers (bots) will pick it up. I've finally gotten the spam load down to a manageable level on my email addresses and I don't want to get it started up again.

And now for the unvarnished truth. Brutus, you have been rude, arrogant, smug and pedantic on both this thread and several others. I see absolutely no reason why I would want to get to know you in any capacity.

You hurl insults because I don't freely hand out my email address to anybody who asks. You attempt to use the childish "are you chicken?" approach when I am not interested in corresponding with you.

I believe I have made my position clear and as far as I'm concerned, that's the end of it.

Oh wait, there's more! Brutus, if you can take your eyes off your keyboard long enough to look to the left of one of my posts, you will see the word "Kansas" under my nick. Realizing that you may be a little shaky on world geography, Kansas is in the United States which is located south of Canada. South on most maps is down the page.
