Assuming you have wrote the numbers correctly then most likely you are trying to install on a hardrive with aprox 1/5 of 1 gigabite of space or just over 200 mbs. Bottom line "can't do it"! You need a bigger harddrive (again assuming the numbers you have posted are correct).

DOS, windows 3.1, or some distros of linux. you can put 95 or nt on it, but you wont have any room for anything else at all.

Large Drive Support

When you used fdisk, did you Enable Large drive support?

213,454,848,Bytes ÷ 1024 = 208452,Kb

208452,Kb ÷ 1024 = 203,56640625,Mb

203,56640625,Mb ÷ 1024 = 0,1987953186Gb

This is only 203·56Mb, so it looks like something has gone wrong.

What is the Decimal size (Full size) of your drive?

You'll need 4·0Gb for Windows ME (4096Mb)

Is that 2,81600 figure correct, or is it 2,816,000 Bytes, or is it 2816Mb (2·75Gb) ?

A 10Gb drive is 10,000,000,000 bytes, but you have to divide by 1024 three times to get the usable binary size, which is 9·31Gb

A 6·9% "loss".

I have installed Windows 98 SE on a Harddisk with under 1 gigabyte, Approximately 1/2 a gigabyte. Worked fine, just didn't
put to much on it. Like Office 97 or anything. Other than that,
all was fine. Updated to 40 Gigabytes and now it flys

Thank you.

You should ask WhitPhil on the Annoyances forum, or wherever you can find him, as he lives in Ontario too.

How are you getting on with this? ME is a bit bigger than '98.

MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR WINDOWS ME

Processor - Pentium or equivalent, 150 MHz or higher. (In reality it needs to be much higher than this. See below.)

Memory - 32 mb of RAM (In reality the minimum is more like 256Mb and it will work better with 512Mb)

Hard Drive Space - 320 mb to 420 mb depending on configuration selected.

Display - VGA or higher

Peripheral - Microsoft Mouse or compatible. (PS2 is better than USB)

Modem - Minimum supported 28.8 or higher baud rate.

For Movie Maker - 300 MHz processor, Pentium II or equivalent, 64 mb of RAM, 2 GB of free hard disk space for video.

Other hardware is required for DVD, Broadcast and Web Reception, Internet Connection Sharing and Windows Media Player

Annoyances has alot of traffic though. I also think the people who go there and answer questions for the most part open many windows at once and really clog the system...

Although, it is a good sight to get help, also.
I have tried to help people there almost every day. My name is
also Spike01 there. I used 01 because, I also try and help at
support at Lavasoft and there is another Spike there.

Another good one is SWI. I also take bootcamp classes there, so far, it is going well.

Whole page scrolling.

Is the difference. Here you get a long page to scroll. With Annoyances you have to click from one thread to another.

This forum has far better standard layout and system.

Pity in some respects as Jack Gulley was a BIG help to me when I was struggling with ME.

I could have saved him a lot of work by changing to XP earlier. Pity that "Big Brother" is using computers in a sick and twisted way of thinking together with pornography.
