Angry Cd Drive woes

I dont think anyone can help me here but recently I descoverd a old Windows 95 Pc in my school basement. It's a great little computor but it has one flaw. The Cd disk drive is broken. When I press the button I hear a loud scraping noise followed by scilence. I tried opening it using the little hole you press with a paperclip to no avail. I opened the drive uisng a flathead screwdriver and looked inside but cant see anything. If ANYONE has and ideas it is greatly needed and apriciated.

Thank you

considering nobody really actually works on cd drives, your best bet would be to replace the cd drive with another comparable drive (if its only a cdrom it should be fairly cheap) you can even get a cdrw drive, although that may be a waste on windows95.

i dunno what kinda computer it is, but most you can replace the cd drive fairly easilly..

also after you take the old drive out, you can open it up and look inside..although most likely you cant fix it, the inside of the cd drive is quite interesting..just a thought...

hope that helps..

If vacuuming out the drive (you have to push the paperclip or pin or whatever you useinto that release hole pretty hard and a lot farther than you think) doesn't fix things then the only other likely option is replacing the broken CD drive with a new one.

That's true, its fairly easy to replace a cd drive,,,,,but win 98 and newer operatinf systems have plug and play. win 95 doesn't have much. You will have to get drivers for the drive and most drivers now aren't made for win 95. what seems easy as pie, may not be the dream we think it is.. Good luck
