Problem with colors... HELP!!!

Hello, I got a problem.
(I'm using Windows 98)
One day, I booted my computer, and everything was fine, but I restarted it, and some things changed.

The colors switched to ''16 colors'' and the screen size to ''640x480''.
I dunno why, I didn't do anything... Oh yes, I have only two options to choose: 2 colors and 16 colors!!! And I cannot move the slider to my previous configuration, ''800x600''.
Strangely, my computer seems to be faster. o_O

Please help me!

Oh yes, one more thing: I cannot see images! I mean... I can on the web, but the ones that are saved on my hard drive no!!! I've tried opening images of different types (gif, jpg, etc) but I cannot open them. I get a message that says that an internal error has ocurred. HELP!!!!!!!

go to your device manager and remove/uninstall the video card/adapter, reboot it should reinstall the driver it has been using.
it is faster because it isnt loading your video drivers and settings for it.
if that does not fix it come back and post again.
run a on-line virus scan if it did fix it to make sure your system is clean.

uninstall the current driver and then re-install it if your display adapter [vga] came with a CD.
