win 98se install

I am trying to reinstall 98se on my dads computer,Ihave tried several boot disks etc etc they all work fine but when the install starts i get this error message ,
"standard mode cannot run because of a problem with your extended memory manager ,try reconfiguring your mem manager ,or replacing it with Himem.sys
If you are using Himem.sys,you need to reconfigure it or obtain a newer version.
please remove any loppys from your drives and press any key to restart your computer"

The disk is fdisked and formatted but i still get this message ,i need help because my dad thinks i have recked his computer .

Welcome to this Forum with your first post.

There could be only two issues here.
Either your memory is bad or your boot disk loads the memory high.
I would not be to help you with bad memory, but you could get a good boot disk that does not load the memory high from this web site, try it and let us know.
