canoscan 3000f scanner

my scanner has been working o.k.recently but now i am getting an error message"error in scanner"turn off and follow instructions
in manual.scanner driver will be closed(code201).
when i click o.k. a further message reads "unable to open twain source please check connection then restart. i have done all of that ,removed software and reinstalled,updated driver but still no luck. i dont know of anything that could make it not function as it was fine only a few days ago.i have windows 98

sounds to me like the scanner is broken. You can check if you have accidently switched the transport switch underneath that holds the read head still. If it is not that, try it in another system. If it still dont work, buy a new one.
