Don't automatically assume I'm trying to show off.
I've running a Scalextric Challenger II system (Developed by Jim Delaney) where a PC controls a car. He has written software for XP and 98 but he uses some port controller software which was free in 98 but is not in XP!!
But I will try the compatibility mode you mentioned...

Is it a macho thing -- something to brag about? "I've set up my system as a dual-boot" --- to impress people? Waste of space --- Windows is complicated enough without adding another layer of potential trouble.
