Looks like I'm in safe mode but not like others I've read

Ok so last night I formated my hard drive and reinstalled windows 98 SE. Everything ran smooth except now I look like I am in safe mode. When I go to dispaly settings it only says 2 colors and 16 colors. When I try to move the screen area it won't move. Any ideas?

If you havnt installed drivers for your graphics card then do that. Or maybe your mobo drivers if you have onboard graphics.

Go to the support/downloads section the hardware manufacturers website and download the drivers, then just install them. Or maybe your computer has a disk it came with? that may have the drivers on.

If your unsure about what make your hardware is or even what hardware you have then try Everest, it should be able to tell you what you have and maybe even where to download new drivers.

Everest download:

That fixed everything with the color thank you so much. But I now find that I have no sound.

Similar solution to the display problem. You just need the correct audio drivers installed. Did you have a driver disk with your computer?

Try doing the same thing you did to get and install your graphics drivers, but for your sound card, that should sort it out. Aslo if you have still have problems could you give us some more information: do you have onboard sound? if so what motherboard do you have?, if you have a sound card what make and is it?, did the sound work before you installed the graphics drivers?, ect.

Thx
cache.

I'm really not sure what kind it is or how to find it. It's just the standard that came on the computer (Hp Pavilion 6553 desktop) It worked before I reformated but after that I was more into what was wrong with the color so I didn't notice. When I go to Device Manager it says PCI Multimedia Audio Device. When I go to that it says there is no driver installed but when I try to reinstall driver it's a no go.

I think the best place to go would be the HP site and search for the drivers there. if not then try windows update, that might help:
