Best Download Website

Hello all:

I'm searching for the best website to download free software (anti-adware, anti-spyware, anti-virus, etc.) Though Ive used download.com and simtel.net, both contain shareware which annoyingly prompts me to pay for the software after a trial period expires!

So, Please advise me on the best google search words. Im not sure if it should be "best free software downloads", "best freeware downloads", or "best free downloads", or what else?? Or else if anyone knows of the best website, Id appreciate it as well!

My old eOne desktop (Windows ME) has made a comeback, but now, there are frequent crashes. Id greatly appreciate if someone could email me a great anti-crash program or the best website that has all these downloads mentioned in this message.

Thanks soo much!

Patrick

downloads

Try
www.downloads.com

http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/2001-...ml?legacy=cnet

Most of these are free or they tell you if not and the cost and have reviews.

Have fun.

Another helpful site

I joined this site just to reply to this question, but will probably poke around for a while as it looks pretty good.

I really like http://aumha.org/

They have a really good favorite free software page, and great guides to keeping your system run bug-free.

Code:
softpedia.com
Softpedia.com has the quickest response time, regarding changes to the site, etc. I've gotten answers from them within minutes/hours, on numerous occasions. When sites get too large, like CNET (mentioned in the original post), then it all comes down to profit fractions and percentages and the spirit of things is lost. In particular, old CNET's download.com used to have download size in its colums, which is now gone.... This was very useful when searching for software quickly to do some simple task, for example. Now it's not possible on their site, any more. Just my 2c.
