Drag n' Drop (Windows ME)

My friend, Blake has a problem with his Windows ME installation. He was riddled with spyware and adware a few weeks ago, but he seems to have gotten rid of most of it now. One problem remains though:He can't use the drag n' drop function which is built into Windows. He can't drag files into folders or drag anything anywhere. What sort of thing could be causing this?

hI it could be that when he got rid of adware and other viruses it took, the file needed to do the drag, and drop with it.

If he has got the disk he may need to do a repair job on the system.

You sure that it couldn't be something that might've been turned off in the registry?

Oh yeah- i forgot to update. Umm, well- he did that... y'know, repaired internet explorer and now he has so much adware and spyware running on his computer that it's not even funny. I don't understand why this happened, but... it did. We're trying our hardest to get rid of it. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this massive amount(the most i've ever seen in my life) of spyware/adware? Remember- his computer freezes pretty much everytime he tries to open up a program(even with his 512 MB of RAM[lucky bastard, haha]).

download microsoft antispyware or a good antivirus. one I can recommended is avast. antivirus Home edition. its free, all you have to do is reg it to get the key number, let it up date and i know it works ok on ME because i have installed it on several of them.
When you first install it it will shut down your comnputer, this is normal, it will restart and scan your hd for you once it has done that it will list and tell you what is safe to delete, oh another thing when it finds a virus or ad ware a siren will go and it will tell you, you have a virus on your machine, if its safe to delete then do it, if its not then put it in the chest, if its a file and it has a virus it will quarintine it and replace the file with a clean version. once it has finished, reg it then let it update itself this one up dates every other night.

keep us posted.

Installing an antivirus program on a system already infected can create major problems. Things usually go better if you use one of the free online scans at Bit Defender, Panda or Housecall to get the system cleaned of viruses.

The spyware removal program that's currently getting the best reviews is Windows AntiSpyware. Other good ones are Spybot and Ad-Aware. All are free.

Once the system is clean, install Avast (or the AV of your choice).

He actually told me he was gonna wait til Saturday(when he's not busy) and take the hard drive out of that computer, put it in another as a slave and scan it using avast! and whatever other scanners he was gonna use.
