Drivers

Guys I know this is a bit dumb, but I need to find out the driver version of my Lexmark z51 (quite old, but a new driver is on offer from Lexmark) - unfortunately whilst I can read the new version, I don't know where the old version (number) is. If I go into Lexmark control panel I get a version number, "About" but I think this is the control panel number, not the driver file itself.
I'd like to retain the old driver (in an "Old" folder) before the download zip destroys everything. Maybe I should make a copy of the whole printer-control then if I don't like what I've got I can revert to the still-working original.

The problem is when I install new cartridges - it prompts for "alignment" then when I click OK (with paper in the printer) it ask for alignment and so this goes on. Shutting down the pc often fixes the problem, so I suspect there is a small bug in the driver. Also the printer is often not recognised ("Off Line") even though it's just finished printing. Very curious.

Lexmark downloaded the new driver to a "Download" folder (how inventive they are, like I don't have any other files so named) - and it contains a file NCH (I think) it then asks if I want to erase these files......oops --not sure about that. This is part of the problem when making a replacement driver, it need to be ever-so user-friendly. I clicked NO and thought you guys would know what's up, etc.
Regards

I assume you must have the original driver on a CD supplied with the printer?
If so, uninstall this driver that the printer is currently using before you install the new one. You can always uninstall the new driver and re-install the old one if you need to.
Usual rule with drivers (most of them anyway) -- don't try to install a new one until you've uninstalled what's already there!

You can find out what version your current driver is in device manager. Right click on the lexmark, then properties and on the driver tab....then you will see the version in the window that opens.
Device manager: start/control panel/ system/hardware tab....device manager.
