Exclamation Uninstalling Win ME

Hi everyone. My pc is a secondhand called Webboy from a Austrian manufacturer called Gericom. Not the best one in the whole world. Had absolutely no idea about pc's! Since my Windows ME is German OS, the Microsoft told me that in order to upgrade the pc with English language, I had to clean the German ME away and install an English OS. So I've decided to purchase Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 with English language, but the company hasn't replied to me yet. Therefore I cannot be 100% sure if it would be alright to proceed the installation of English XP on the machine. However, receiving no reply yet, I still want to be doing somethin. Maybe, I want to at least find out how the next step would look like... So here I am. Can you teach me how to uninstall ME and install XP HE SP2 on a pc generally? Plus, that would be really great in case somebody knew about installing English OS on a German pc. Anyway this is the first installation of an OS after I got the German pc four years ago so will definitely need some help! Please help! thanks!!!

Its real simple to install an OS first you need to check if the pc meets the minimum requirements .check the XP requirements on the package shold be a minimum of 233 MHz required (single or dual processor system ). 300 mhz or higher processor clock speed recommended. I would recommend at least a 500 mhz or higher or boot times are going to be really long. 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported ).I would recommend at least 512mb minimum. 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space. If you use all the features-addon extras its going to require more. Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor. of course CD-ROM or DVD drive plus keyboard and mouse. and a internet connection. < should have been all ready set up. now if the computor powers up plug it in let it warm up for a little bit a few minutes should do. hit the power button then hit the pause break button if you did it right your monitor should be displaying the video card info. If not hit the reset button then quickly hit the pause break button again to stop at the video card info screen repeat as needed.then write down all the important info but most vid cards should be ok as long as they display the minimum requirements.then hit enter then press pause break again you should now be on the hardware section should tell you processor speed in mhz and memory size.if you miss it just hit reset then wait tell the video info appears then hit pause break as the screen starts changing.repeat as needed. or get a program that identifies all the hardware on your computor while in windows its self or in dos which ever. or open it up and look if your adventurous type but be careful ground your self out to the computor case.then compare see if you meet the minimum requirements. If you do or already know you do. then you can install two ways one a clean install or a install over the current OS. I would recommend a clean install. On a clean install format the hard drive. get a xp or 2k boot disk. boot up use that disk get to a dos promt. the type fdisk. it checks the drive integraty. then type format c:then select what you want generally a single partion ntfs file system.then do every thing to start formating.wait tell it finishes formatting then want to reboot reboot do what ever it takes to get to the bois setup screen ,hit delete,F9 what ever method is used should be a hint on the hardware section of boot up but must be fast as thats generally were you need to hit what ever to get to the bois setup page.if you miss it just hit the reset button repeaat as needed.-some computors will go automaticall to the bios setup screen if the boot up was reset. but anyways make sure the in the bois set section on boot up procedure that it list boot up from cd rom first,if not change it to do so.then save changes and reboot.after installing the xp cd in the appropriate drive. then just follow the setup menu.to reboot over a OS boot up your computor once the OS is on the main screen windows desktop .install the xp disc and follow on screen instruction.or just insert xp cd in a cd dvd drive and boot up the machine if its first boot process is cd rom drive.

Thanks for your help, danny800 and kal. Danny, yes I wish I could just buy XP upgrade version but they say you can't upgrade a Geman OS with an English software so I should clean all. And thanks for the detailed instruction, kal. It was really good. Kal, I don't know what button should I press to cause pause/break? thanks

well I don't generall like to assume. but if your using a standard layout 104-107 keyboard layout only in german you would have Esc., F1-F12, Print Screen SysRq, Scroll Lock, Pause Break, the num lock led, cap lock led, scroll lock led, and the Fn key all in line-in a row. but it woul be the third key after F12. - ---- ---- ---- ---
Esc^ ^F1-4 ^F5-8^F9-12^Print screen, Scroll Lock, and then Pause Break.

the german-deutsch tranlation would be Entweichen, F1-12, Druck-Schirm, Rolle-Verriegelung, Pause Bruch < looks almost similar.

- ---- ---- ---- ---
Ent^ ^F1-4 ^F5-8^F9-12^Druck-Schirm,Rolle-Verriegelung, Pause Bruch, then you would have the numerische Verriegelung l.e.d.,Kapitalien verriegeln l.e.d.,Rolleverriegelung l.e.d., und Fn Schlüssel. hope it helps but thats assuming a lot and as they say about assuming-when you assume you make an ass out of you and me. ass-u-me.

oh it should be the very first row of keys

well now you can use that button. and if you ever use ms paint, hit the alt key and print screen at the same time then open up ms paint srcoll edit down and click paste.or right click while on the paint scren.and it will paste the last thing you were looking at in a ms paint picture.like a web page, your desktop or what ever.
