Please Help!!

I am such a complete computer idiot so forgive me if I ramble but here are the problems I am having and the things I did just before all this happened and what I know about my computer ( not much ).
My computer was running very very slow so a friend told me to download a pctuneup and I did this and it did its thing and now I cant see any messeges when I recieve or send instant messeges in yahoo messenger, I cant click on the delete button in yahoo mail, I cant click on the compose button in yahoo mail, when I go to certain web sites it says done but is just a solid white page, I tried uninstalling yahoo and re installing it and that has done nothing.. I have tried to restore a backup and that was a failure as well.. I did scan disk and I defragmented no help there either. I am running windows 98SE on a custom built computer that was given to me so I have no idea what all it has can someone please help me figure out whats wrong?

First I would run a registry scan by clicking start\run then type scanreg then click OK, to see if there is any registry errors.
You also might try going into your Internet properties and under the program tab click the reset web settings button at the bottom then reboot to make sure it takes effect.
You said your system was running very slow. Have you ran any (GOOD) anti-spyware programs. A slow system is a good sign of spyware gumming up your system and robbing it of resources.
If you don't have any good anti-spyware programs to run (I recommend something better than spybot and Ad-awareSE) you can try to go to this site and download their free Spy Audit spyware scanner from Webroot Spy Sweeper. It won't remove but should tell you if you have spyware on your system, when you run it you'll have to be connected to the net in order to get the Spyware update definitions.

Look on the right side for spy audit, free download and they also have a free trial version of spy sweeper. But if you can afford it I recommend Aluria, it also has a option to do a Winsock repair, and it's said to be the best overall.
