Install Win98SE from restore disk?

My computer that was running Win98SE has died. I have another system that is running Win98 (first edition). Is there a way to use the Compaq restore disk to install Win98SE on the other non-Compaq system? Maybe by expanding and copying the .bin files....or is this a lost cause??

Compaq Recovery/Restore (whatever they're calling them now) disks only access data on the computer's usually hidden harddrive partition. Non-Compaqs don't have that data.

Compaq Quick Restore disks don't need the hidden partition but they install some BOMIDs and BIOS data unique to the model they came shipped with. They don't offer any options other than to wipe the disk clean and start over.

I've yet to find any information on how to successfully use a Compaq Quick Restore on anything other than the model it shipped with although I've read plenty about problems resulting from trying.
