Re-Install 98SE after using Ghost 2003

After installing a new hard drive and coping over the entire image using Norton's Ghost 2003 I can't do a windows re-install. The problem is I updated to DirectX 9 and it makes the video image from my camera look very jerky when downloading on IEEE1394. Therefore it would appear the only way to go back to Direct 8 is to do a re-install. But I can't now after creating the new drive using Ghost. Does anybody now why?

once directx 9 is on your computer, there is no getting it off from what i've heard...maybe with a *cough* reg hack

There is a proggy to remove Directx 9 but it seems to be for XP.
Haven't tried it myself on 98se.

There is another which I have used for a while each time I had a problem but I'm not sure it works with directx 9.

It is called dxun13.exe 716,113 bytes. Just do a Google search.
