There is a proggy to remove Directx 9 but it seems to be for XP.
Haven't tried it myself on 98se.
There is another which I have used for a while each time I had a problem but I'm not sure it works with directx 9.
It is called dxun13.exe 716,113 bytes. Just do a Google search.
