Well i just got a old motherboard of a friend of mine.
but i wanted to change the bios but there was a password on and my friend doesn't know the password.

So i thought let's get the bios battery out. I open my computer.. There is no battery

So if the computer has nog battery how can it remember the time, the old harddisk its on and the password??

Can anyone help me??

To identify pc components .... Belarc Advisor or PC Wizard
To bypass bios passwords .... have a look HERE

Having to register is a pain but free.

The bios has nothing to do with the HDD it is totally m/board specific. Have a look at the board itself, there will be a manufacturer's stamp on it somewhere, usually near the ram slots.

I find it real hard to believe there is no cmos battery, once the board is identified you can look for a manual online to get the jumper settings to reset the cmos.

Hi, Many years ago there was a clock/bios chip that had a rechargable battery built in. It was called a TEXAS CLOCK. It looked a lot like a 14 pin chip, but was about 1/4" tall. That would have been about 10 plus years ago. Hope this helps a little, Jim

Hi again Nemesis, You are correct. The chip was actually Dallas and not Texas. It's been a long time and my Rememberer is not working so good. However, my Forgetter is working 100%. Jim
