Did you download pics from a camera? Sometimes, depending on the program used, jpegs get renamed and are not recognized.

I take it you mean with Internet Explorer.
I use Irfanview to view pics with - it is very reliable and will rename jpgs with invalid extensions. I've copied this from another forum for you.

Try reassociating those JPGs through the Open With context menu function. Highlight file, hold down Shift key, RIGHT click file and select Open With. Scroll down to IE and select it. Then check Always use this program etc. and click OK. If that doesn't do it then you will have to Remove JPG file association from the Folder Options/File Types (Registered file types)listing and reregister the JPG file type with IE, but this is a little trickier if you have never done it before. Personally IE is OK as a viewer but I much prefer the free IrFanview viewer or a picture editor such as Adobe PD both of which will allow you to edit those JPGs in many ways.

Actually, in the past, I could go into Explore and double click and view the picture. But something has changed.
It also would let me double click when I received an email attachment with a photo, but not now.
I just don't know hat could have changed.

Did you try re-associating windows with jpegs? Right click on a pic > properties > opens with > pick program
