Question Missing "RUNDLL32.EXE" on WIN98

I am missing the "RUNDLL32.EXE" on my old computer(WIN(98). I have no idea how it vanished, but we bought a new computer(XP), so I didn't mess with it. I'd like to get it up and running again now. How do I download this DLL to my new computer to put on my old computer without screwing up the new computer.

I have the WIN98 disk and tried loading that but it says that I already have 98!!! When I try to remove 98 to reload from the disk I get the message "Cannot locate "RUNDLL32.EXE" .

ANY HELP APPRECIATED!

Cathy

In order to replace the Rundll32.exe file, try the following:

Click the Start Menu
Click 'Run'
Type sfc and click 'OK'

When the System File Checker (SFC) opens, choose the option to extract a file. Specify the "Rundll32.exe" file. You will need to have access to a Windows 98 CD to extract it from.
I believe this is what you was trying to do.

Good luck.

Hi, If all else fails, go to the CD drive that holds the Win 98 CD. Locate, in the root, the file SETUP.EXE. Run it (Just double click it) and it will re-install 98 and put back the missing file with no loss of any of your stuff. It will pick up a few Win annoyances, but you can dump those. Good luck, Jim

Hello Cathy1958,

Have you tried this:

Go to Start>> Run > Type in: cmd (or command) [Enter] You will now be in the DOS command prompt screen:

To install/register the file type in: regsvr32 file.dll or regsvr32 file.ax (where 'file' is your file name) [Enter]

A message should be displayed confirming that you've successfully registered the file.

Good Luck,

Winnipeg
