Networking 2 old computers for offline use

This is my first time on this board so I hope I am posting this question in the proper place.

I have 2 0ld Compaq computers, one is Windows 98 and the other is Windows ME. I am not interested in getting them online. I already have a new Dell for online use.

I would just like to connect them together so that both computers can share files, graphics, information, and perhaps games. I am sure both computers will need to be close to each other to do this (like in the same room)

Hi, There are several ways to net two computers. ME and 98SE should get along OK together. I am netting 98Se with XP at the present with no problems. Best is to have nic cards in both. Use a crossed cable and set up the LAN in Windows on both machines. Also can use straight cables and a Hub. Other way is to use DIRECT CONNECT with a Serial Null Cable or a Parallell Cable. Win has that too. Google it. You should come up with specifics. You also may get away with the machines in different rooms if not too far. My longest run is about 30 ft no problems. Luck, Jim
