no sound HELP Please.....

I have a windows 98 and my sound just went off. The little icon by the time display just disappeared.
I have tried to follow the directions in the self help but to no avail.
Any ideas

Double click on the System icon in Control Panel and select Device Manager tab. Anything with an exclamation mark in a yellow circle showing.

Also what make and model is your comp?
