Virus problems

I have a virus on my computer. I am trying to clean the hard drive and repartition it and reaplly win 98 se. When I try to use fdisk to do this, my partition on the hd has a volume label I cannot get rid of. The Volume Label is best described as a picture of an extension cord outlet with the words "Face" in which the letter "a" is a smiley face, and an accent mark over the letter "e". This is proceded with a raised lowercase and underlined "a" then "@^2'' and the "2" is also raised. All together it looks something like this "(electrical out symbol)F ce'a@^2". Can someone tell me how to get rid of the volume label so I can continue?

Thanks Bill

Hi Bill, Right click the drive, click Properties. You will have a window with a place to change the Volume LABEL. Make it anything you like or nothing. It should change with no problems, but I have never actually seen the type of name you describe. If you can't get windows going then you can change it from DOS using LABEL C: New Label. Good Luck, Jim

Most drive labels should be HDD as standard.

Kill the boot sector completely.

Name is not an issue, best thing to do, download a bootdisk from www.packardbell.co.uk this will be bootable, put it in to your Pc, restart, any errors appear, "ESC" drop to a command prompt.

A:
ts.bat
Kill boot sector - that will kill ALL partitions, data and any viruses on the HDD.
Should then be able to set up the Pc normally after this.
