Graphics card upgrade

I have a dell xpst500 pc with 128 memory. Currently have a 16 MB graphics card and would like to upgrade. Will a 128 graphics card work in this pc. If not, how can I determine the greatest MB card to buy.

Speak to Dell, its their systems and they should be able to answer any questions like that, a 128 MB card should work, depending on other hardware on the system, such as HDD size, bios version.

Thanks, I am just afraid that since this system is six years old, they are going to try to sell me a new one. I really want to get the graphics updated and give this one to my kids, then investigate a new PC. I have an xgi volari v3 vga card which is supposed to be compatible, (according to all requirements), but upon install, machine appears to boot, monitor does not display and then machine shuts itself down. Not sure what to do at this point.

Do you get a display at the start? or is it black all the time?

If you ring Dell, ask for a bit of advice, tell them the make of your Pc, and what you're query is, they shouldn't jump the gun and expect you to pay good money on a new machine just yet.
