Can't get drivers to load (ME)

I am working on a laptop Dell Inspiron 51oo which had a fatal hard drive crash. I replaced the original 30G with a 40 G Toshiba MK4026GAX drive. The drive was recognized readily. Formatted the drive and installed ME on it.
I down loaded the drivers from Dell. But when running the drivers especially for the processor and PCI drivers, I can see the computer recognize them, and then reload them like it didn't see them. The device manager shows them in there with the yellow ? mark.
It took me a while and I finally got a cd driver to load, but as usual the wrong driver. It shows an "A" drive as a removable drive, but it acts as a floppy drive.
I contacted Dell to my great pains and all I was told is the unit is out of warrantee, but if I want to spend money they would help. I finally got them to send me the OS for XP Home and am waiting on them.
Of course when you pop on line there are a slew of drivers to load for each item. I understand they make various machine with different profiles. I have been trying to get the CD drive to work but as of yet haven't made any success. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

In Device Manager, what is the error code you get?

Also, where did you get the drivers from?
