Unhappy BB Cable Modem - Can't get a connection

I have a second machine with Win98 SE which I want to use for Games and game downloads. I have a cable modem supplied by ntl and connected to a PCI Netgear ethernet card FA330/331 ver 2.0. The card is installed and appears under network adapters. However Device manager also shows a yellow question mark stating "communications device" (unknown). I have tried everything but can't find any way of getting windows to see the connection.
Where do I go from here?

To try the easiest thing first, in Control Panel>Internet Options>Connections tab>Setup button, step through the wizard to make sure Windows knows to look to the network card and not the dialup modem for its internet connection.

Check the information from your ISP to see what, if any, information needs to be entered when you right click Network Neighborhood, left click Properties, double click TCP/IP followed by the name of your network card.

Oldtimer - you above all should know why I am reluctant to call ntl!!!!!! Just go to http://www.nthell.co.uk/ and you will understand.
Anyway it will be next Sat. before I have the inclination or time to go through it again. I will print out this thread and also one I have in the NTHELL forum. Hopefully I will be able to then sort it out as long as I keep off the beer
Thanks MIZ - I will try that.

You have the driver?

I agree, NTL technical help is sadly lacking.

EDIT: Apparently, this card is very problematic for other people too.
