Can't load cdrom drivers to install ME

Hi, i am trying to install windows Me, I put the Me cd in, and the computer boots to the screen with the 3 choices. I can select the help and the "start computer WITHOUT" cd drive, but when I choose start computer with cd drive it freezes.
I have swithched cd's, hd's and tried a different cd.

any ideas?

yes i've tried with the boot disk for Wme; the cd for windows me and neither will install the cd drivers. I've swithed cd's to rule out the possibility of a bad install disk, and for the same reason i've tried a different hd, but it does the same. I have done fdisk to it, partitioned and activated the partition and i have formated that partition so all that dos stuff is ok, its at the moment of isnstalling the cdrom drivers (that come on the installation cd and flopy) that freezes

its driving me nuts

Did you ever manage to get this figured out? If not let me know and i'll tell you a simple way to get around it as long as you have access to another PC.
