win98se and antispyware

Sometime back, while reading user reviews of antispyware on cnet, I read that antispyware and Windows 98 don't actually get along very well.

Does anyone out there have, as I do, a dialup, a Pentium II (HPBrio8533), a 30GB hard drive (the program partition has 12GB in it, with only 2GB in use) and Windows 98SE and successful experience with antispyware? Now that Microsloth refuses to recognize the existence of Windows 98, I cannot tell if their free antispyware will, in fact, get along with my OS. It would be just like them to make sure it didn't.

I use avast! Antivirus, but to date have not installed antispyware. I am told I ought to do this. Recommendations from those who have had successful experience with antispyware and my combination of hardware and OS would be most welcome.
