Question No Sound

Every time I attempt to play music through wmp I get this error message:

0xC00D11BA: Cannot play the file
Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device, such as a sound card or sound controller. You may encounter this error message for one of the following reasons:

Your sound device is in use by another program. Quit other programs that may be using your sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Your sound device is not functioning properly. To troubleshoot the problem, see the Sound Troubleshooter in Windows Help or refer to your sound device's documentation.
You do not have a sound device installed on your computer. Install a sound device, and then try to play the file again.
Error ID = 0xC00D11BA, Condition ID = 0x00000000

I thought perhaps my sound card was bad so I pulled a sound card from an old computer that I know works and installed it but I'm still recieving the same message. Here is my belarc stuff...

To check the easiest thing first, in Control Panel>Multimedia>Audio tab, make sure the name of the sound card presently installed is selected as the "Preferred Device."

Also, I ran a DirectX Diagnostic and on the music tab stage I recieved this in the notes:

DirectMusic test results: Failure at step 6 (Activating the IDirectMusicPort): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure)

I'm at a complete loss here, I know both of these sound cards I have installed work. Any help from anyone out there I would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, me again with more info. I now appear to have a missing driver for "Wave Device for Voice Modem" in Device Manager under Sound, Video and Gamecontrollers. I have tried using both the software that came with my modem and my win98 disc to pull a driver for it, but neither worked.

Could this be whats causing my no sound issue? If so, any idea how to fix?
Thank you.

Ok, problem is resolved now. A friend of mine had me give it older drivers instead of the updated ones I had. Works perfectly now, just thought I would let everyone know in case they are having the same problem.
