Admin password on Windows ME - lost!

I tried to download and execute the BelArc diagnostic utility and it failed as I don't have Admin access!

This is a standalone laptop and as far as I know there has never been an Admin user account created. It was bought new, but has been for repair a couple of times (backup and restore to fix a problem with ... I can't remember, but that was more than 18 months ago and it was working fine since then).

I have already raised a thread on the Drivers forum regarding a problem with my Sound Card, but the steps to get help there have revealed this "No access to Admin" problem.

Any ideas?

This is really bothering me now... I just spent ages downloading an application, to find it won't allow me to install it. I've been looking up the PC repair shop that I last took it to, but it seems to have vanished (last repaired about 18 months ago). How can I get an Admin level user account on my own Laptop?
