Windows XP crashes creating Network

Hi,
I'm trying to connect a Win98 Laptop to my PC running XP. Everytime i run the network wizard it gets to the point where it looks like its trying to connect to laptop (the end part) and always crashes at the point it seems to be trying to talk to laptop.

Has anyone got a detailed guide into setting up a home network between these 2 computers if so can you post please.

Question...your Windows 98 crashes or Windows XP ??? why do you need to run the wizard to begin with ?......really, there is no need to run the wizard as long as you have it set right.

How are they connected, through a switch ? do you have a router too ? Are both your computer on the same "work Group"

Cheers

Hi,
I'm trying to connect a pc running windows xp sp2 and a laptop running win98

I have a Network Bus Card connected and installed in the Laptop and a crossover wire connected from that to the network card in the PC.

But when i run the install wizard on XP it just reboots itself before finishing.

I've been told networking these machines together are very hard work and am looking for a detailed walkthru for both machine setups

Hope that makes sense.

If you have a easier working way then please post as im getting frustrated with it all

I'm at computer if your replying straight away.
