new mouse and a KVM switch

I have two computers which share the same keyboard, video, and mouse, via a KVM switch. I can switch from one computer to the other by a sequence of key presses on the keyboard. As long as I boot up with the KVM switch connected to my W98SE machine, the mouse will work just fine. It's a brand new Logitech optical PS/2 mouse. If I switch over to the other computer and back again, that is essentially the same as disconnecting and reconnecting the mouse without rebooting. When I do that, the mouse goes haywire.

Is there the faintest chance that this problem could be fixed in software?

Thanks for your attention.

Hi David. What you need is a KVM switch with built-in "PS2 Port Emulation" which tricks the PC into thinking the PS2 mouse is still connected when you switch it over to the other PC.
Example here: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-2-Port-.../dp/B000087LCG

Or you can get an add-on port emulator to use with your existing KVM switch.

Hi, pip22, good advice still.
-Are you saying it is his computer that's being foxed? ie not the mouse as originally described? - that's probably the user mistaking the result. OK.
I didn't know such "version" was required, perhaps he bought it cheap and the dealer never said!
