Win98 - Koebp.exe Issue

I have a very ancient win98 machine. Every time i boot up it gives me an error message saying "Error could not locate koebp.exe"

I can't access Control Panel, I can't open Applications but I can open documents ?!?

prior to it giving me this error message I ran Spybot, Ad-aware, & AVG witch removed a lot of nastys!

Does anyone have a clue to what KOEBP.EXE is ????

I can tell you it's not a Windows file (ie not part of Windows 98), so it either belongs to a third-party application or something nasty is still lurking around on your system.

Can't say more than that I'm afraid since Google search has never heard of it, unless you mis-spelled it.

Time to wipe the disk and re-install Windows from scratch I would say, then install a reliable (and in most cases this means "not free") firewall and antivirus security suite from day one instead of letting bad stuff in then trying to shift it when the damage has been done.

I can say with 90% certaincy that there isn't any more nastys on the system. I've slaved the hard drive to another PC used Norton IS 07, Panda IS 07, AVG Pro 7.5, SpyBot S&D, Ad-aware 6, F-Scure IS, all of there online virus scanners and still it has not fixed it.

It seems like .exe files have been re-associated with this KOEBP.EXE file.

The customer understands this is an unfixable problem without re-installing win98 and has gone for a new system but still . . .

This is a real noodle scratcher . . . .

Cheers for replying Pip22, No more help needed (unless you want to help me destroy the physical existance of the tower unit) lol.
