Looking foe Widows 98SE drivers for A8V Deluxe

Hi all. I have and old motherboard, an ASUS A8V Deluxe I plan on restoring to working order. My son wants to play some old Win95 and Win98 games, so I figured instead of screwing up his current computer with compatability issues, I would just build a seperate computer he can try the games on.

I have no disk/driver CD for this motherboard, so my question is.. can anyone tell me exactly what drivers/software I would need to get this motherboard working? Onboard sound with a 6800GT video card. Already have a A64 3000+ CPU. IDE harddrive and 1 Gig memory.

Allready have the audio and video drivers... WDM_A400.exe and 81.98 forceware drivers for Win98. I believe I have the correct chipset drivers...Via_hyperionproV512A.zip.

If you already have the sound & graphics drivers. the Windows 98 CD (I assume you have one) should take care of everything else on it's own when you install it.

When I used Windows 95 in 1996 and wanted to do a fresh install, I simply wiped the disk, installed Windows from the CD, installed the sound and video drivers, and that was it done. So based on my experience you already have everything you need.

Thanks. Sounds almost too easy. Do I need the chipset drivers then?
Win98SE will install the Usb 2.0 drivers, Ide drivers and whatever else is needed automatically??

Win 98SE doesn't support USB two as standard. You will need third party drivers. If they are available.
A64 is not supported. I doubt it will even work.
Many of the chipset functions will not be supported.
Required updates to prevent corruption issues due to the age of Win 98 are no longer available.
Most modern games will need something rather better than Win98 to even install.
Everything you need is here:
http://uk.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=...&mode lmenu=1

In short you are wasting your time on a nigh on ten year old OS. XP is your only real choice.

Win98SE has linitationas as u describe, but for an old motherboard, limited memory it's a reasonable choice. Indeed XP may require rather more memory.
Win98SE will support USB-1.1 as far as I know it only affects speed. There may be other issues with the combination like support for HDD being a bit limited...but u have the Asus directions.....probably best to get as much as you can "now" before they drop support.
The only other thing to check is the BIOS battery - would be a shame to discover it's about to croak having set everything up....

++Let us know how it goes....At least you don't need Microsoft's "permission" to use your software on your computer.

I suspect the only limitations are No video, no modern games. but everyting you might want to do is there, USB, OpenOffice, IE5.5 (probably) and ability to fix yr photos, share over the web and print. You know there is a memory limit for Win98 - typically 256M is about it - and HDD's are troublesome over 137G without partitioning.
Good luck .. . . . .
