No Sound on Gateway with W98SE

Hi there! I was given this Gateway Essential Model 500C by my sister-in-law. But, my nephew, in attempt to make more room on the HDD - he started deleting files....SYSTEM FILES! (Dumb kid.) The Start-up disk is un-usable as the door broke off the floppy and the system will not read from it. The graphics and sound were lost. I have resolved the graphics issue by downloading the drivers for the chipset. But I just cant get the sound back. I even used a friend's subscription to driveragents.com and it found three bad drivers. I have downloaded and installed twice with no success in returning the sound to this system. It like they just wont "stick" to the system. Pleeeaassse help this karaoke fanatic to get back online and singin'.

Gateway supply the drivers for your PC as these are the only ones guaranteed to be the correct ones if the PC is still using the same components and operating system as when it was new. Go here and enter the PC's serial number: http://support.gateway.com/support/d...ter.asp?Tab=My

Drivers from other sources (even from the device manufacturer's website) may not work because companies like Gateway often fit non-standard components which require non-standard drivers -- and only the PC manufacturer has these.
