running dos database system under win98

I use a dos database system called FMS80. When I run some of its programs under windows, output file extensions are changed
eg: sort afile.dat output file will be named afile.1X or afile.0X.
If anyone could help me with this problem It would be greatly appreciated.

Hey I'm old school as well but it's time to make some changes. One of my first IT tasks was to gather data from a proprietary DOS DB and get it into an 3th generation windows (also proprietary) application.

Your post is old but if you revisit and see this, let's talk.
