Lost Mouse and Video Drivers on ME

Hi,
Hoping someone can help out with this problem.
Running Windows ME on and IBM Aptiva machine. I purchased a new machine and decided to swap the wireless optical mouse (USB)from the Aptiva to the new machine and the wired mouse (PS/2) that came with the new on, onto the Aptiva.
Everything seemed to be ok, then after a reboot, I first lost the keyboard (USB), and after that came back, I lost the mouse, and then the video driver.
I went into msconfig.exe and starting drivers individually, and when it hits the mouse driver, it complains. I tried to go into control panel->System-> Device Manager, but it does not come up. I have been told to remove the mouse driver from the Device Manager, but I don't know of any other way to do this (especially without a mouse).
It does not recognize the video driver, and I am coming up in 640x400 mode. I suspect once I get around the mouse issue, I would be able to reinstall the video card driver, and get back to normal.
I am trying to avoid a reinstall, since I have tons of stuff on my system, that I will have to back up (probably should have done that before I did anything).
I searched the Microsoft helps, and tried the ones I could, and nothing has helped. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ken

The wireless mouse needs an external USB driver. This will have been pre-installed on your new PC which is most likely running Windows Vista, and that driver is most likely not compatible with Windows ME on your Aptiva PC.
To "get around the mouse issue" you will need to put the wireless mouse back on the new PC and the PS2 mouse back on the Aptiva.

If you really would like to use the wireless mouse on Vista (your new PC) you will need to visit the mouse manufacturer's website too see if they have a Vista driver for it.

" DITTO" to pip22's response.

BTW, my understanding is that if you reinstall the OS it will not affect your files. It'll just reinstall the OS.

{{PLEASE VERIFY THAT BEFORE YOU PROCEED WITH MY SUGGESTION.}}
