On my win2K box, in a cmd prompt window, I can copy text to the clipboard by simply dragging the mouse over the text as is standard in windows.

But on XP Pro I always have to select Edit->Mark under the upper left control menu.

Is that how is works on all XP systems? or is there a setting that will let the mouse drag automatically select text?

Hi, Don't know about the way you are doing it, but the PRINT SCREEN key in XP still puts whatever is on the crt on the ClipBoard for pasting into any program that can paste. May be easier? jim

This thread has my somewhat confused. The original poster wants to know an easy way to copy text from a console window in XP. Which the easiest way I know of would be: right click the screen then select 'Mark'--> drag the mouse over the text you want, then press enter.

Then the next post talks about the start menu, and sez: "cmd prompt is to read your drives"...huh?

Then, the post after that tell you how to take a screen shot. After that, there is speak of not having luck at boot-up..double huh? lol

Oh and did anyone notice the original post was made 3 years ago?

Hi, Didn't think of this - you are clicking CUT or COPY after you select the text you want on the Clipbord for pasting someplace else? Luck, Jim

Looks like somebody's been poking around in the archives.

In the command prompt properties, go to "options" and enable "quickedit mode".

(And then choose "modify the shortcut that started this window")
