Windows won't load

Hi,
My granddaughter's computer will not load. It is relatively new although not a great one it's as KOB 630e FSFX however it ran like a dream until it was shut off two weeks ago. They went on vacation and when they tired to use it today it got as far as the Windows 98 splash screen and will not load anything else. I checked to make sure everything was plugged in and it was I had no trouble getting into set-up and checked to make sure the bios n things were right and everything looks fine but it will not load windows and I don't know what to do to fix it. I tried loading only the bare safe things and it wouldn't load and I tried to the other load and still nothing. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Jog

Jog, everyone on this board will try to help you out (that's for sure) but it is so hard you diagnos a computer just by knowing it does not boot.
Could you please look into finding what model of computer you have (I never heard of KOB 630e FSFX) ? Would you want to install a clean version of Windows 98 by any chance ? do you have the CD? Let us know if you want to install the Windows 98 once again and we will walk you through it.

cheers

An Alternative to Formatting---A re-install via Your CD or Disks:

To reinitialize W-9x hardware drivers and leaving your settings
intact:

Run REGEDIT

Click The ( + ) sign HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Export Enum to a floppy to save , then
delete the ( Enum ) and re-boot with CD or Disks in hand .

Windows will ask you to provide the disks for your drivers and you
may need to re-boot many times.

As usual , before you start , Backup , Backup , Backup .

Or ,

Start > Run , type in regedit & press Enter .
Press F3 .
Type in enum & press Enter .
Right click on enum & hit Delete .
All your drivers are now gone .

Lightbulb Won't boot? ScanReg to the rescue :)

I've had simular problems were the computer wouldn't boot. I tried all the normal solutions, but I was stumped. Then I came across a solution using someone elses' computer. This save the day - i almpst had to reformat + re-install windows.
Check this out:

1) Start Windows in MS-DOS mode (press the Ctrl key as soon as your PC starts. This will get you the Bootup menu. Once the menu is up, choose Command prompt only)
2) Type Scanreg /restore at the prompt
You will get a screen where you can select which registry backup to use
3) Choose your backup and press Restore
4) When ready you'll be prompted to Restart your computer
