need help from WIN98 pro

alright i installed windows 98. everything went fine, no qualms there.
as soon as i got it all up and running, i went to go set up the LAN settings and it tells me "insufficient memory, try shutting down some programs". nothing but windows is running, and it has 256 which should be plenty for 98. any thoughts?
