Automatic Shutdown

I believe only "ATX" power supply will shutdown when you select shutdown from windows. Old style "AT" power supply , you have to urn off the power by pressing the switch when prompted by windows.

Or the solution could be in your BIOS, I once had a win98 computer which did that, but I reinstalled 98 because of some nrealted problems and fiddled around with the BIOS and it turned the power off after shutting down.

The info about the ATX power might be the cause though.

Even an ATX system that has proper Bios you can install Windows 98 SE OEM edition and have the shutdown problem. Microsoft has a patch for shut down issue on their web site to this day (that was what I was looking for- no offence)
