can`t open attatchments

A friend of mine had a virus which screwed up his outlook express .He has since got his email working again but now when he clicks on attatchments sent to him in his email messages (jpg files ect.) they will not open.He is using windows 98.Can someone tell me if there are settings I can use to correct this. thanks

if it were mine, or one i was working on, i would go to add remove programs, add/remove windows components. take the check out of outlook express and remove it, reinstall, by going back and relacing the check you may be propted to insert the 98 install cd, if you dont have it, go to start, windows update, scan for updates and let it download and install the new one.
