Explorer and Internet Exlorer conflict
I have been trying to resolve a problem with a PC, so far without success.
When Windows (98SE) boots up there are no icons on the desktop and I get the following error message 'EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in module WININET.DLL at 0187:702234f4.'
When I close this message down the start menu, task bar and system tray disappear leaving only the dial-up connection which allows me to access the Internet and use Internet Explorer. If I remove the WININET.DLL file from the Windows system, which can only be done from DOS, Windows works fine but IE does not. I have used the Internet Explorer repair tool and replaced the offending file with an updated version. After some suggestions that I could have a corrupt history cache I have deleted the History, Cookies and Temporary Internet files from DOS removing the Index files and have also run a virus check and checked the Network settings. I have even re-installed the Operating System after all this I am still getting the same problem.
Appreciate any help
